Where Are the Most Common Places To Find Mold?

October 17, 2022

Mold is capable of growing anywhere in your home. But, there are also common spots for mold. That is because certain locations are more susceptible to mold growth than others, especially in areas where a lot of moisture tends to develop. Read on to learn more about some of the most frequent areas to spot mold growth.

Frequent Areas for Mold Growth

Professional mold inspections are a great way to prevent and treat mold growth. But, if you are looking for some of the most common spaces where mold grows, you can begin by looking in your kitchen near your stove and sink.

Mold is also common in household basements that don’t have proper ventilation and can also grow near leaks. Don’t forget to check your bathroom near your shower, sink, and exhaust fans, and check for any leaks that may be present. After showering, ensure your floors are dry and let air flow through the bathroom to prevent mold from growing.

If you have an attic, be sure to check in and around it, especially if you don’t have adequate ventilation coming through. Finally, laundry rooms and crawlspaces, if you have one, should be checked for mold growth.

Mold can also be present in your air conditioner. AC units produce condensation and varying degrees of temperature. The best way to prevent mold from growing in your AC unit is to keep the filter clean and have it inspected often for mold.

Sometimes, even during your inspection, you may not even find any perceivable mold growth. This doesn’t mean that it’s not there. Many times, mold has a tendency to grow behind ceilings and walls if your home has a gap in the structure. This means you should not neglect your wallpaper, furniture, carpets, or even curtains when looking for mold.

If you are having trouble spotting mold or would rather get another person’s opinion, it is best to hire a professional who can easily find mold using special equipment that won’t damage your floors or walls.

The Reason Behind Mold Growth

Mold can grow in areas that don’t have proper ventilation and that hold in a lot of moisture. Now that you know that, you should also understand why mold grows in the first place, so you can stop it.

First off, basements can and do flood because they are the lowest level of your home. Also, basements don’t have as good ventilation as other areas in your home, making them a culprit for mold growth.
